“Was not their mistake once more bred of the life of slavery that they had been living?—a life which was always looking upon everything, except mankind, animate and inanimate—‘nature,’ as people used to call it—as one thing, and mankind as another, it was natural to people thinking in this way, that they should try to make ‘nature’ their slave, since they thought ‘nature’ was something outside them” — William Morris

Hyperobjects Update 29

I'm up to the point of including the talks I gave this April. Right now that means the one I gave at Georgia Tech thanks to Ian Bogost. 66 000 words. It looks like my prediction was correct: this book will be 70 000 words long.

It's like eating oryoki (Zen eating style). In oryoki you use a setsu, a stick with a cloth wrapped around one end, to scoop up all the unbeaten parts in your bowl. You get a little repeat of what your meal was.
